Cycling Tour for the Truth, Peace, Justice and Eritrea

A Cycling Tour for the Truth, Peace, Justice and Eritrea will begin in Sweden on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 and will end in Geneva on Monday the 13th of April. Twenty five cyclists from nine different countries and scores more of their supporters will be cycling through Sweden, Germany and Switzerland covering over 1700 km and highlighting the truth about Eritrea and its people and how, despite repeatedly being wronged by the west, the country is forging forward and has become an oasis of peace and harmony in the Horn of Africa. They will also be calling for an immediate and unconditional implementation of the 13-year old, final and binding, boundary decision and an end to Ethiopia's illegal occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories, including the town of Badme. Furthermore, they will call for an end to the illegal UN sanctions imposed on Eritrea based on totally fabricated and falsified “evidence” by Ethiopia and its western enablers.

COM.ER.IT Calls on Italian Government to work on Lifting Eritrea Sanctions

The COM.ER.IT ( Eritrean Community in Italy ) calls on the Italian Government to work to lift the two UN Security Council Resolutions 1907 (2009 ) and 2023 (2011) that were imposed on Eritrea and its people on the basis of fabricated charges and orchestrated by Eritrea's archenemy: Ethiopia. In addition, COM.ER.IT is convinced that long-term bilateral relationships between Eritrea and the other nations of the region is essential for the maintenance of international peace and security and to fight poverty and extremism in the Horn of Africa. So we ask you government, the EU and the members of the Security Council of the United Nations to do what is ethical and moral: revoking these unjust sanctions.

Coalition of Eritrean Canadian Communities and Organizations ( CECCO) letter to Prime Minister Hon. Stephen Harper

We are writing on behalf of the 30,000 Canadians of Eritrean descent to urge your government to take immediate action in lifting the Regulations implementing the UNSC Resolution 1907, and ease restrictions on the people of Eritrea and its Diaspora. We believe Canada’s main interest in the Horn should be the peaceful development of Eritrea as a stable trade and cultural partner. Canada’s foreign policy justified an alliance with Ethiopia and eventually became the tacit acceptance of the repressive practices conducted against the Eritrean people. Canada and our allies continue to work and cooperate with monarchies and repressive regimes around the world. Acknowledging the double standard in the application of sanctions may be the first constructive step towards improving the diplomatic relationship between Canada and Eritrea and re-establishing peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

Eritrean Community in Scandinavia letter to the Security Council Members

Paradoxically, instead of the long overdue apology to the Eritrean people, the UN Security Council 60 years later in 2009 passed another unfair and unjust resolution UNSC Resolution 1907(2009) - a painful reminder of the sacrifices the Eritrean people were forced to pay due to the UN Security Council’s ruthless resolution 390 (V). ... It is beyond any reasonable person’s comprehension to imagine how the Monitoring group with its members inappropriately pushing for “Regime Change in Eritrea” is expected to be unbiased. Even more difficult to gasp is why the Monitoring group is not made accountable for fabricating accusations after accusations. ... Thus the Eritrean people are questioning the pretentious concern about human rights in Eritrea and UN Security Council’s 14 years long impotence, unwillingness, neglect and inability to enforce its own decisions on the Eritrea-Ethiopia issue, and its reluctance to enforce international law with respect to the sovereignty of Eritrea.

OEA Writes a Letter to Ban Ki-Moon and Security Council Members (Dec. 23, 2014)

There was no rational justification to impose the sanctions in the first place, and there is even less rational explanation to maintain them now. The fact that the SEMG (Somalia-Eritrea Monitoring Group) has come out in the open and admitted that there is no credible evidence that links Eritrea to Somalia in its past three reports is another reason to do away with them. Thus we feel the immediate and unconditional lifting of these sanctions is long over due.

Verein der Eritreer-Deutschen e.V. calls for Lifting of Sanctions

Association of Eritrean - Germans expresses its deepest concern about the resolutions 1907 (2009) and 2023 (2011) of the United Nations ( UNSC) Security Council that imposed sanctions on Eritrea. The adoption of these resolutions was based on false claims and was politically motivated. They lack any legal basis and are contrary to the UN Charter. There is no rational explanation that justifies further maintenance of such unjust sanctions.

On 5th Anniversary, the OEA Calls on the UN and the US to lift Unjust Sanctions

Tuesday, the day before Christmas Eve 2014, marks the fifth anniversary of another tragic day “that will live in infamy” in the history of the United Nations with regards to Eritrea. On December 23, 2009, Christmas Eve, the UN, led by Washington, adopted Resolution 1907 (2009), imposing sanctions on Eritrea based on groundless charges orchestrated by Eritrea’s traditional enemies, especially Ethiopia. This was a continuation of a history of UN betrayal of Eritrea and the Eritrean people. The Organization of Eritrean Americans (OEA) has called on President Barack Obama and the members of the UN Security Council to lift the two UN Security Council Resolutions 1907 (2009) and 2023 (2011). “It is time to do the right thing and stop unjustly punishing the people of Eritrea,” the letters said.
